Synopsis[]

As a deployment policy leads to a double homicide that places Aceveda in the hot seat with potential voters, Vic is forced to help Gilroy avoid being implicated in a hit and run.

Recap[]

1x12 Corner-tony-jesus

Jesus Rosales watches over his friend Tony Nunez as he deals drugs.

The Strike Team breaks up a cockfight and arrest everyone present. The organizer, Gabo, offers to help them get cockfighter and arms dealer Pazi Arambula at the upcoming "Dos Días de Sangre" cockfighting festival, which Vic Mackey considers. Toros dealer Anthony "Tony" Nunez is run over and dragged by a car while selling drugs, and his partner Jesus Rosales watches as the perpetrator speeds off. In the Clubhouse, Shane Vendrell offers to go undercover to catch Pazi, despite Vic's doubts due to what happened last time he went undercover. Ben Gilroy arrives and asks to speak to Vic privately, where he reveals that he was the one who hit Tony. He claims that he would have stopped if not for Jesus shooting at him and insists that he cannot tell anyone what happened because of previous drunk driving charges. Desperate to avoid prison, he asks Vic for help.

Vic orders Shane to take Gilroy's car to be secretly repaired while having Curtis Lemansky take him home. He promises to find whoever is on the case. At the scene of the accident, Claudette Wyms and Dutch Wagenbach converse about what witnesses saw: the color and model of the car, as well as the Latin female passenger. They note the strangeness of a high-end car in a rough neighborhood. Danny Sofer asks Julien Lowe if he is alright after almost being shot. He insists that he is and he will soon talk to Neal Cook for guidance. As Dutch and Claudette return to the Barn, Vic starts asking but Tony's case before they are interrupted by David Aceveda, who asks Claudette for assistance investigating a double homicide. As they leave, Dutch gives Vic all the information he has, surprised to learn that Gilroy did not mention someone being in the car with him. Vic insists that the Toros likely threw a rival dealer in front of the car to scare Gilroy off, but Dutch sticks to the idea that he accidentally ran Tony over. He offers to help Dutch with the investigation.

1x12 Mob tanya violet

A mob gathers outside Tanya Kramer and Violet Roosevelt's murder scene at The Grove.

Claudette and Aceveda find a mob of residents outside the victim's apartment. As they enter, they find elderly sisters Tanya Kramer and Violet Roosevelt brutally murdered with a meat tenderizer, the former's hand stuck in a garbage disposal in a desperate attempt to dispose of the body. Julien interrupts and informs Aceveda that someone in the crowd can identify the killer. Claudette notices Aceveda's council opponent Karen Mitchell in the crowd, who is there on behalf of the current councilman to assess the situation. She brings forward Tanya's neighbor Maya Duffy, who insists that the killer is Wally Forton, Tanya's daughter Melissa's boyfriend. She then points out that they called 911 and it took the police over an hour to turn up, allowing Wally time to check for police outside before going back in to kill them. She angrily insists that if a black man broke into a white woman's apartment, the police would be there much faster, rebuking Aceveda's claim that everyone is treated equally by the department. Aceveda takes Claudette to find Wally's girlfriend. Gilroy identifies Jesus from a list of Tony's associates. Vic promises to find him and then asks about the woman in the car, Sedona Tellez, who Gilroy admits he is cheating on his wife with and is in love with her. Vic warns him that Dutch is looking for her and they need to bring her in.

Melissa's neighbor tells Claudette and Aceveda that she is out at the gym and Wally came by looking for her and hour ago. As Vic approaches Dutch with a story about a Los Magnificos hit, Dutch reveals that he found Tellez, having found her house to be empty but learning from her neighbor that she fled town in a car earlier that day. Shane and Lem discuss the plan with Gabo, agreeing to send Shane to meet with Pazi, promising to make a deal with him after they catch Pazi. He teaches Shane the proper lingo and how to care for the chickens to make him look like a convincing cockfighter, while Lem expresses genuine admiration for the birds.

Vic finds Jesus hanging out with his Toros friends and attempts to bring him in. His friend Pablo tries to stop Vic, forcing him to pull his gun and drag Jesus away with him. Claudette informs Aceveda that a witness saw Wally and Melissa leaving her gym together. They notice Mitchell arriving, and Claudette notes that she seems to be the councilman's chosen successor, giving her a firm advantage over Aceveda. She advises him that if he has to pick between catching Wally and beating Mitchell, he should stick with the former. Mitchell asks Aceveda if the 911 call recording has arrived yet, and asks to listen when he says they are on their way.

In front of Gilroy, Vic intimidates and bribes Jesus into keeping quiet about the accident. He starts writing down his number for Jesus, only for Gilroy to kill him, insisting that he could not be trusted. He reminds Vic that the Toros saw him take Jesus away, making them both culpable in his death. They dump his body in Los Magnificos territory to make it look like a hit, and Gilroy recommends he buries the case when it gets dropped on his desk. He apologizes for how everything happened and asks "we're good, right?" which Vic does not answer. Danny and Julien pull up to a yard sale run by a man named Dookie, who has been stealing his neighbors' things and forcing them to buy them back. He shows them his permit for hosting the sale, and nobody watching speaks up out of fear when Danny asks if any of the items in the yard are theirs. Shane meets Jojo Rizal, a bounty hunter who agrees to split Pazi's hefty bounty evenly with him and Lem if they bring Pazi to him. Lem is hesitant and the two argue, and Rizal leaves, telling them to contact him when they figure it out. Cook insists in his meeting with Julien that he can overcome his urges, and tells him that "there's someone I would like you to meet."

Vic gives Dutch his Los Magnificos hit story, though Dutch reveals that Tellez is the CEO of a Cayman Islands company that buys up Farmington real estate. Dutch decides to check on Jesus's crew of Toros to see if they saw anything before his death. At the festival, Shane and Gabo's cock wins. He excitedly tells Lem how much money he won, then mentions that Pazi hasn't shown up yet and Gabo insists he will be there tomorrow. Claudette, Aceveda, Mitchell and Gilroy listen to the call, where Tanya's murder and screams for help are heard forty-seven minutes in. Mitchell is aghast at how this could happen, though the rest blame it on a new policy about assigning the department's limited manpower. Gilroy reveals that Aceveda decides how the units are divided, and they privately argue. Aceveda points out that the policy was Gilroy's idea, but he counters that Aceveda is biased because he assigned the extra patrols to specifically Latino neighborhoods. He tells Aceveda that it is his problem now, and Vic asks him "business as usual?" on his way out, to which he responds "for both of us."

Dutch brings Pablo into the Barn for questioning, and a nervous Vic threatens Julien with his sexuality into help him. Before Pablo can describe Vic to Dutch, Julien claims to Dutch that Aceveda needs him for something. With Pablo alone, Vic threatens him into selling his Los Magnificos story, which he does when Dutch returns. As they leave, Dutch is convinced by Pablo's behavior that he is lying and covering for the driver, telling Vic to follow up his lead but remaining determined to find out more. As Aceveda orders more units to Tanya's neighborhood, Claudette tracks Wally and Melissa to a motel, where a riot squad busts in on them having sex and arrests Wally. Wally insists that Tanya and Violet were getting between him and Melissa, insisting that "we're forever!" as he is dragged out. Vic approaches Aceveda and asks about the case, but Aceveda is bitter about Vic's connection to Gilroy. Vic realizes that Gilroy diverted units away from the neighborhood so the market value would go down and he could buy property for cheap.

1x12 Pazi-lem-shane

Lem captures Pazi Arambula.

Julien is introduced to Gary Parsons, a formerly gay man who was "saved" by conversion therapy and is now married to a woman. Cook likens homosexuality to a disease and tells Julien that he does not have to live with his confusion anymore. Shane's cock is killed during a fight, leaving him saddened. Gabo introduces him to Pazi, who consoles him over the bird's death as Gabo burns the body. He shows Pazi the other birds he is selling, then tries to drug him when his guard is down. Pazi fights him off and pulls a gun, but is stopped by Lem. Shane hits him with a board to incapacitate him, but Lem points out that they were supposed to wait until Pazi offered to sell him guns and they were going to turn him in to the law. Shane is adamant on giving him to Rizal. Vic confronts Gilroy outside Tanya's apartment, though Gilroy insists that it does not matter. He wonders if Gilroy was going to send the Strike Team to clean the area of crime for profit, and Gilroy points out that the team also uses shady tactics. Vic wonders "where's the good in what you're doing?" and Gilroy ignores him and promises to give him a cut of the money. He reveals that Tellez is hiding out somewhere else in the city and promises to pay him soon.

Rizal drives Pazi off to Mexico, leaving Lem angry that Shane lied to him. Shane plans to split the money three ways between them and Vic, excluding Ronnie Gardocki because he was not involved in the scheme. Lem promsies to beat Shane up if he ever pulls one over on him again. Julien reveals to Danny that he is planning to go to conversion therapy. They find a woman confronting Dookie over a stolen microwave, which she carved her initials on after he stole it the first time to prove it is hers, as well as a stolen picture of her and her granddaughter. Julien arrests Dookie and Danny tells the neighbors to take their things back. Aceveda tells Claudette that someone leaked the 911 recordings, asking her to talk to the press due to her race.

Shane and Lem return to the Clubhouse, having checked Tellez's new address on Vic's orders and finding that she never checked in. Vic wonders if Gilroy just got scared and needs time to calm down, but Shane points out that he has him culpable in Jesus's murder. Corrine Mackey calls him, revealing that Gilroy has come over for dinner. Gilroy takes the phone and asks why he went looking for Tellez, knowing that he will continue to dig. He subtly threatens Vic's family as the Strike Team speeds off while Vic calls the sheriff's department. Claudette and Aceveda find a mob protesting outside of Tanya's apartment, where she and Mitchell try to calm the crowd. Someone fires a gun, and a protestor starts to beat on a police car.

Vic comes home to find that Gilroy left before the police arrived. The officers leave while Vic orders Corrine to pack up and leave with the kids despite her protests. Shane insists that Gilroy is "done" as Vic promises a distressed Cassidy Mackey that she is just going on a trip. The protest turns into a riot as Claudette, Aceveda and Mitchell hide in a stairwell. A riot squad escorts them away as the rioters burn the police car.

Quotes[]

  • Claudette Wyms: You know, rumor is she's Morgan's handpicked successor for his seat.
  • David Aceveda: Really.
  • Claudette Wyms: Which means that she would be running against you in the primary, but you knew that. As wedge issues go, two dead women is a bad one. You wanna catch the killer and cover your ass, but if you can't do both, this is about catching the killer.

  • Curtis Lemansky: Jesus! For once, can't we just do what we're supposed to and then stop?
  • Jojo Rizal: Hey, when you guys figure out who's wearing the pants, why don't you beep me? Oh, your cock's out.

  • Vic Mackey: Julien, I need a hand. I need your help with something.
  • Julien Lowe: I'm done helping you.
  • Vic Mackey: Hey, I keep your secret every day, just like I promised, right?
  • Julien Lowe: Every time you need something, you'll twist a screw?
  • Vic Mackey: You're gonna help me with something right now or you're gonna see just how hard I can twist.
