Nivan Gonzalez (also known as Poncho) was a "churro" street vendor and the father of Yancy.
Before Season 1[]
Nivan wanted his son, Yancy, to study at the state university. But when he received a scholarship to study at Stanford, Nivan told him he'd stop paying Marlon Demeral for protection so he could cover the expenses.
At some point, he borrowed $100 from Felix Contreras.
Season 1[]
After Nivan stopped paying for protection, the gang of Los Magnificos (who had taken Marlon Demeral out of business) sent a kid called Olman to kill him. This would serve as his initiation. Olman shot Nivan and left. Felix Contreras arrived at the scene and called 9-1-1. When the officers arrived, Felix was checking Nivan's pockets for the $100 he owed him. After Officer Julien Lowe pulled him off, Danny Sofer noticed he was still alive and asked for an ambulance.
That night, Dutch Wagenbach informed Claudette Wyms that Nivan was stable.
