Jeannie Sutton, also known by her maiden name of Jeannie Russell, was the elderly mother of Anne. Jeannie was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Before Season 2[]
In the 1940s, Jeannie was a teenager and started working at a soda shop. While working there, she met Earl and they had a brief relationship during a year. As a result of the relationship, Jeannie got pregnant. After giving birth to the child, she and Earl smothered the child to death and buried him in a shallow grave at what was at the time the L.A. County Cemetery.
When Jeannie started suffering from Alzheimer's disease, her daughter Anne started taking care of her.
Season 2[]
One day, after Anne left, Jeannie managed to walk out of the house. She then went to a store where she used to work in and took three bags of candy. When the store clerk noticed she was leaving without paying, he called her but she didn't pay attention. Later, Jeannie went to Apartment 16 on 960 Chester Avenue and tried to open the door. Craig Dawson, the current resident, opened the door and Jeannie started screaming and asking for Earl. After that, Dawson decided to call the police.
Jeannie then headed to Echo Park and dropped to a specific spot on the sidewalk, clawing at the floor. As she was there, some kids started mocking her. When Detectives Dutch Wagenbach and Claudette Wyms arrived, they scared the kids and took Jeannie to the Barn.
After reuniting with Anne, Dutch confronted her with the truth of what she had done in her teens. As Dutch told her everything about the dead newborn, Jeanne just looked at him terrified. Anne then took her away from there.
