In the end of the episode Lem gets pulled by Internal Affairs at the most inconvenient time, since him not knowing what exactly Kavanaugh has against him, that is why the meaning of extraction from his comfort zone not being able to give heads up to his strike team members, also the school shooting happening so victims bullets getting extracted.
