Synopsis[]

The leak of the auditor's report jeopardizes the futures of everyone at the Farm.

Plot[]

Shane Vendrell comes to Vic Mackey's apartment to give him Lanie Kellis's published report. He flips through it, finding that it paints the Barn in an extremely negative light, and asks Shane to leave as Emma Prince emerges from his shower. As Vic enters the Barn, he notices Claudette Wyms glaring at him with the report in her hands. After a brief confrontation, he walks away and approaches David Aceveda, who brushes him off. Corrine Mackey calls him to inform him that Ben Gilroy, bailed out and on house arrest, left a message on the house's answering machine warning that he is coming over.

2x10-vic-ben

Vic drags Ben Gilroy away from his house.

As Julien Lowe, now married to Vanessa Lowe, stresses about loses his job, Danny Sofer points out that he is going to be fine, but hers is likely on the line. She asks Claudette for help getting her cleared for "missing" the weapon that killed Armadillo Quintero. She wonders if another inmate gave Little Pop the knife, and Claudette bitterly wonders aloud if an officer did instead. Before Danny can ask for details, Julien pulls her away for patrol and Claudette agrees to talk later. Vic finds Gilroy trying to get inside, having cut off his ankle monitor and wanting to talk to Vic. He drags him away from the door and plans to take him to jail, but he refuses to go and promises to sell Vic out if he does not help get him to Mexico. After searching Gilroy for a wire when he mentions that the DA's office wanted him to wear one, Vic reluctantly tells him to get in his car.

Shane drops off clothes for Gilroy at Vic's apartment, who gives Vic the key to a safety deposit box that does not have enough money to get him out, most of the money being taken by Sedona Tellez. He insists that the money will be enough and gives them the location. Aceveda confronts Kellis, who insists that her notes were stolen and leaked to the press. She states that despite the leak, all of her notes are an honest retelling of what she saw. As the Strike Team await the arrival of their new member, Vic asks Curtis Lemansky to show him their investigation into a series of car thefts while they take care of Gilroy. Shane notes that the DA instructed Gilroy to look into them, and Vic voices his suspicions that Aceveda was talking to them and that the leak of the report is connected. Detective Tavon Garris enters the Clubhouse and Vic introduces him as the team's newest member. He asks Lem to fill Tavon in on the car thefts. As Vic and Shane leave, Shane expresses mistrust.

Danny, Claudette, Julien and Dutch Wagenbach investigate the murder scene of Toni Jahnes, an old woman who was beaten to death during a house robbery. As Dutch looks at the body, he wonders to Julien if his recently cleared cases will keep his job safe. Vic and Shane send Quazi to get Gilroy's money. As he goes, Shane warns Vic that he plans to kill Gilroy if he steps out of line. Aceveda meets with LAPD chief Tom Bankston, insisting that the report is biased and their arrest records outweigh allegations of misconduct. He convinces Bankston to let him keep his job due to the optics of firing him the day the report leaks, but Bankston warns him that he will be out of a job after his run for city council is over whether he wins or not, and he will owe him should he win. Jorge Machado advises Aceveda to run a smear campaign against Karen Mitchell. He refuses, insisting he can turn the Barn around before the primary, though Machado insists it is futile.

As they wait for Quazi, Shane again expresses mistrust of Tavon, though Vic insists he will be gone the next day if he does not measure up to their standards. Quazi emerges from the bank and heads to the set meeting spot. Danny and Julien arrest a pair of women, one of them pregnant, fighting another woman. As they are detained, Danny asks the pregnant woman why she is fighting, and she implies she is trying to lose the baby because it will remind her of the absentee father. Checking Jahnes's background and finds that her daughters passed years ago, while Dutch is more focused on putting together a folder that proves he deserves his job. Ray Carlson drops off the autopsy report, revealing Jahnes died of a heart attack. Claudette wonders if she had it after seeing the burglar.

2x10-tavon-lem-louis

Tavon and Lem interrogate Louis.

Vic returns to find Gilroy gone and all the alcohol in his house empty. They find him at the nearest bar, where he has been fighting with customers. Vic and Shane force him out as the former pays his tab. Lem and Tavon interrogate Louis, who refuses to give up the car theft mastermind/his cousin Denon. Tavon attacks him when he insults Lem, who warns him that there are cameras watching them. He threatens to tell Louis's associates that he flipped on Denon if he does not cooperate. As they return to Vic's apartment, Quazi asks Gilroy to sober up before his new passport photo. Lem calls to inform Vic that Denon is being taken down soon and they leave Quazi to take care of things. Claudette looks through Jahnes's house.

Aceveda orders Dutch to stop flipping through his files and take care of shooting with multiple homicides. Vic approaches and Aceveda asks how Tavon is performing, ordering him to close whatever case he is working on. Vic reminds Aceveda of their deal, and his reaction indicates to Vic that he has it out for the Strike Team. He relays this to Shane, who has noticed that there have not been any reports about Gilroy. Vic notes that the DA must be embarrassed that he fled and they need to take advantage before it goes public. Shane informs him that smuggler "Coyote" Jack will be dropping a group of migrants in town soon and his informant will give him to them. Claudette returns to the Barn, where Aceveda tells her to focus on the shooting, though she insists that the burglar is responsible for killing her if he caused the heart attack. She defies his orders and publicly shames him in front of Kellis for preventing her from doing her job and not focusing on saving the jobs of the Barn's officers. Kellis asks her if she is alright and asks her for help implicating the bad actors and saving everyone else.

Vic and Shane intercept Jack, allowing his passengers to run while forcing him out of his car. They press him into getting Gilroy to Mexico. Dutch, having caught the shooter, finds Claudette in Jahnes's house and she asks him to help. Tavon and Louis approach Denon under the guise that the former sells stolen trucks. Their confrontational attitudes while negotiating almost lead to a fight, but Tavon defuses it.

Dutch and Claudette find evidence that the burglar was a drug addict, and Claudette rejects Dutch's suggestion that they should get Vic involved. She finds drugs in local dealer Long John's hat, and he admits that he sold drugs to a local trans woman named Mancy. Shane informs Vic and Lem that no one is looking for Gilroy, leaving him suspicious. Claudette relays her (correct) suspicion about Armadillo's death to Danny, though she is adamant that Vic would not let her lose her job.

2x10-vic-ben-gun

Vic orders Ben to keep his mouth shut.

Quazi takes a drunken Gilroy's photo as Vic and Shane return. Vic gives him a misdirecting plane ticket and he immediately begins talking about Terry Crowley, prompting Vic to pull his gun and Shane to search him, finding a wire attached to the back of his thigh. Vic realizes that that is why he went to the bar, and Shane presses him into revealing that there are people following them. Vic points out to Shane that Gilroy asking for help nullifies any charges against them under entrapment and plots to force Gilroy to go to Mexico. Seeing his pathetic state, Vic orders him to lose his tail so they see Vic and Shane leaving without him. Though Shane does not trust Gilroy, Vic insists he will flip on them if he goes back to prison. Vic informs Aceveda and Kellis that Gilroy asked him for help getting out of the country and that he tried to get him to turn himself in. He asks Aceveda to get someone to pick him up from his apartment. Lem interrupts to warn Vic that Denon wants his cars now, and a listening Aceveda orders Vic to focus on him rather than Gilroy. As Vic heads for the Clubhouse, Danny follows him and asks how Armadillo was really killed, though he denies any culpability. Furious, she berates him for leaving her to lose her job after everything she has done for him and storms out.

Dutch, Claudette, and a squadron of police raid a drug house and find Mancy high on crack with Jahnes's belongings around her. Kellis calls the head of the surveillance team and orders them to get Gilroy's recording device. Aceveda addresses the officers currently in the Barn and promises them he will fight for their jobs and to focus on their duties for the time being. Claudette relays that Mancy saw Jahnes dead and decided to break in, meaning no one was at fault for her death. Aceveda notes that "she had her time, that's some consolation" but Claudette counters with "she died alone." Danny and Julien try to convince the pregnant woman to have the child and give it up. Julien reveals that they talked to the baby's father, who is uninterested. Danny decides she will take the baby, not willing to let the woman kill it. The woman refuses to give her baby to a cop.

2x10-ben-coyote

Shane puts Gilroy in the coyote van.

Gilroy takes a taxi to the pickup point, where Vic and Shane confirm that he lost his tail and paid who he believed to be the coyote. Vic opens a nearby van door to reveal Jack inside, revealing that he paid a hitman and that Vic will call him and order his death if he ever gets caught. Gilroy insists that they were friends, but Vic points out that he threatened his family. Gilroy notes that he did not kill him when he had the chance, so Vic passes the hitman's number to Shane. Gilroy claims that he got too greedy and that "there's a lesson there," and Shane hustles him into the van. The Strike Team bring Denon in, and Aceveda confirms that Tavon is comfortable on the team. Kellis informs Vic and Aceveda that Gilroy is gone. Lem tells Vic that Tavon would make a good addition to the Strike Team, though Shane remains hostile. Tavon enters the Clubhouse and presents Vic with his transfer papers, though Vic tells him he is welcome to stay on the team.

2x10-tavon-st

Tavon brings his transfer papers to Vic.

As Danny leaves, Julien asks if she was serious about keeping the baby and tells her she was doing the right thing. He invites her to come to church with her, though she rejects his invitation. Kellis, Bankston and his men listen to Gilroy's recording, though Bankston is unimpressed and notes that the Barn truly has the highest clearance rate in the city. Kellis insists that the problem is the Strike Team, and that she could have had irrefutable evidence of Vic's corruption if her notes were not stolen. Bankston orders her to turn in her official report and dismisses her.

Vic finds Claudette using the department's computer to email her daughters, preventing him from reporting Denon's arrest. He tells her to come to grips with her dislike of him because "I'm not going anywhere," and she responds "neither am I." Vic looks at her, then turns and leaves.

Quotes[]

  • Vic Mackey: Yeah?
  • Claudette Wyms: Just reading the newspaper. Have you?
  • Vic Mackey: Lakers cut it pretty close last night.
  • Claudette Wyms: They're not the only ones.

  • Danny Sofer: I patted that guy down. There's no way I missed a knife that big.
  • Claudette Wyms: Maybe you didn't.
  • Danny Sofer: The only thing I can think of is another inmate must have given it to him.
  • Claudette Wyms: Or another cop.

  • Tom Bankston: I've heard about this kind of slick shit of yours. It doesn't work on me. You're running for office. I'll leave you as captain until that run is over. If you win, you graduate to City Council and you remember that I gave you another six months. If you lose the primary, you need to spend more time with your family due to the strain, and you resign quietly.

  • Curtis Lemansky: Louis, you want a break on this drug charge, you're gonna help us out.
  • Louis: Denon's my cousin. I can't dime him out.
  • Curtis Lemansky: Why not?
  • Louis: He's my cousin. It'll screw up Christmas... and I'm not lettin' some cracker cop ruin the holidays.

  • Claudette Wyms: I'm finishing what I started.
  • David Aceveda: This is a break-in with no victim. Move on to a real case.
  • Claudette Wyms: I am working a real case! And if you spent more time letting me and less time stopping me, maybe these people wouldn't have to worry about their families... how they're gonna feed them because of a bunch of crap they know nothing about and had nothing to do with! Damn it! No wonder this precinct's upside down. Saving these people's jobs should be your priority. Damn!

  • Dutch Wagenbach: Is Mancy a transie or a cross-dresser?
  • Long John: Is there a difference?
  • Dutch Wagenbach: Fairly large one.

  • David Aceveda: Everyone, listen up, please. Could I have your attention? I should have said this 12 hours ago. We're a team. A family. And I'm gonna fight like hell... to save every single job in this building. In the meantime, let's just focus on what we do best. Protect and serve.

  • Vic Mackey: Time to go.
  • Ben Gilroy: Who's this?
  • Vic Mackey: Coyote who's taking you across the border.
  • Ben Gilroy: Who was the guy in the subway?
  • Vic Mackey: The hit man you paid $10,000 to kill you if I ever call this number and tell him this code.
  • Ben Gilroy: You made me pay my own hit man?
  • Shane Vendrell: I'll bet you really need a drink now, don't you?

  • Ben Gilroy: Vic, we were friends.
  • Vic Mackey: You were the one who threatened my family.
  • Ben Gilroy: It was a bluff!
  • Vic Mackey: This isn't.

  • Ben Gilroy: Vic! I got greedy. I lost everything. There's a lesson there, Vic.
  • Vic Mackey: Whatever.

  • Shane Vendrell: Just be ready for something a little more difficult than auto capers.
  • Tavon Garris: Can't wait to follow your lead.

  • Danny Sofer: I haven't been to church since I was, like, nine.
  • Julien Lowe: God remembers you.
  • Danny Sofer: Yeah, well, I forgot about him.

  • Vic Mackey: Look, you better figure out how much you hate me and how you're gonna deal with that... 'cause I'm not going anywhere.
  • Claudette Wyms: Neither am I.
