Summary[]
As the Strike Team is threatened with exposure in the money train heist, Claudette goes it alone in order to find evidence of a public defender's drug addiction.
Plot[]
Crosby Nell walks David Aceveda through a U.S. Treasury office, having caught the mole in their system, Jon Nadler. Nell explains that Nadler gave the Armenian Mob information on the Strike Team and the two meet with Nadler, who explains that the Armenians wanted the addresses and families of the Strike Team, but he could only get them their names and photos before he was caught. Vic Mackey notices Corrine Mackey in her hospital uniform, wanting to still work part time. He requests that, when she and the kids can move back to their house, that Cassidy Mackey stay with him for the foreseeable future, which Corrine is immediately resistant to.
Vic visits Tavon Garris and claims ahead of his interview about his car crash that, in his fight with Shane Vendrell, he attacked Mara Sewell Vendrell. With his memory impaired after the crash, Tavon denies this but is unnerved by the claim. Vic goes to Shane and Mara that the lie did not stick, and Shane notes that Tavon always liked Curtis Lemansky and suggests involving him. The Strike Team cracks down on Armenian businesses tied to the mob, bringing in Petrosh, a mob accountant, and his assistant Ayla. The latter explains that she is paying off her late father's debt, and her little sister Sosi is being held hostage by Margos Dezerian to keep her working. Aceveda arrives on the shooting scene of public defender Lisa Kensit, who is in critical condition at the hospital. Dutch Wagenbach and Claudette Wyms explains that she was likely shot after prosecuting a One-Niner.
The Strike Team pulls over and arrests a truck driver who moves gasoline for the Armenians. They interrogate Petrosh, also the owner of the gas stations, and press him to give up Dezerian. He explains that, after the money train was robbed, the mob bosses gave Dezerian control of LA and had him start running heroin, and that Kail Saffian works as a distributor. Vic orders Shane and Ronnie Gardocki to track down Saffian while he and Lem will visit Tavon. Aceveda warns them that the Armenians are looking for them, but Vic brushes off his concerns. When Aceveda leaves, Vic asserts to the panicked Strike Team that they will soon be laundering their money through Leith, making it untraceable. Dutch asks Aceveda about what he learned from Nell, and tells him about Vic knowing details about Neil O'Brien's case and theorizes that the reason he did not find the money train robbers is because he is protecting the robbers. Aceveda counters that Vic asked him for overtime, knowing he is having money problems, though Dutch knows that Vic would be smart and subtle if he was tapped into the money train. Aceveda tells him to keep on Kensit's case but promises to look into it.
Shane and Ronnie observe Saffian with his family. Vic has Lem claim to Tavon that he saw Mara's injuries, and that the Strike Team protected him from legal retribution. Tavon, horrified by his "actions," asked if he hurt her unborn baby. Vic instructs him on how to lie to his interviewers, while a weeping Tavon asks for Mara to come see him so he can apologize. Dutch and Claudette interview Mark Baron, a juror who was seen hurrying out of the parking garage where Kensit was shot. However, he admits to seeing a black man shoot her and drive off, giving them the color and make of the car. The two go to visit Kensit in the hospital, where Corrine informs them that high levels of oxycontin were found in her blood, indicating that the levels would kill a non-addict.
Vic and Lem join Shane and Ronnie as they stalk Saffian, though Lem is visibly troubled by Vic dismissively telling Shane that "everything's fine" with Tavon. Saffian goes in the move and the Strike Team moves to follow him. Aceveda meets with Louis Sperling to ask him about money laundering. Sperling explains that he would not keep it in the house or at the workplace, and that the average money launderer would use a warehouse or storage locker. Aceveda asks him to claim to local launderers that the Treasury is closing in on the money train robbers, and that anyone helping them should come forward.
As Saffian catches onto the Strike Team following him and begins evading them, prompting Vic to put out an APB. Dutch and Claudette Kensit's client Mary, who was the last person she called before she was shot. Claudette presses her into admitting that she delivered oxycontin to Kensit in exchange for keeping out of jail. Dutch presses Mary about who the supplier was, but Claudette pulls him aside, adamant about focusing on Kensit. He points out that if her addiction is proven, it will call all of her cases into question, noting that she defended Bob Lindhoff. Claudette insists that, if she was high in court, those cases should be investigated. Despite this, Claudette relents and agrees to focus on the shooter. Danny Sofer and Julien Lowe are called to move Carol, a woman passing out flyers for Aceveda in front of a store. She refuses and is brought to the Barn, where she sees Aceveda and professes her faith in him. Aceveda thanks her for her support but insists that he only needs her vote, leaving her unimpressed as she is let go.
Claudette arrests Mary when she refuses to talk, believing she is still using despite her claims of sobriety and hoping to exploit her need for more drugs. The Strike Team finds Saffian doing a heroin deal and arrest everyone present. Vic holds Saffian's head in a barrel of oil for the address of his meet with Dezerian until he relents, realizing it is a block away. Dezerian, watching them with Sosi, stabs her in the back of the neck and flees. The Strike Team finds her dying when they arrive, and Vic and Lem speed her to the hospital while Shane and Ronnie stay behind to hunt Dezerian.
With Mary desperate for drugs, she gives up her boyfriend, Marlon Gault, who ordered her to arrange a meeting at the garage with Kensit. Claudette learns from her that she and Gault had been suppling Kensit for three years. Ayla arrives at the hospital, where Vic informs her that Sosi died of her injuries and embraces her. Carol returns to the same store, now protesting Aceveda, and is arrested by Danny and Julien.
Gault is brought to the Barn and denies shooting Kensit, while Dutch interrogates Mary and learns that Kensit owed Gault $15,000 and concludes that he did indeed shoot her. He confesses, but complies when Claudette offers him time off his sentence for proof that Kensit was an addict. Vic meets with Leith, who is halting their laundering operation because of Sperling's announcement. His demeanor makes Vic nervous that he could be wearing a wire, and he leaves faking indignation.
Shane informs Mara that they are in the clear with Tavon, and she asks him to quit the Strike Team, not wanting Vic around her, but he refuses. Aceveda comes to the apartment and informs Shane that he knows about his storage locker registered under a fake name, having searched the lockers in the area and gotten the owner to identify Shane. He claims he was hiding it from Mara, and Aceveda asks to see the locker. Knowing Vic moved the money without telling him the new location, Shane gives him the key. After he leaves, the Strike Team meets at the apartment and Vic and Shane relay their experiences. Vic informs the Strike Team that they will be moving the money again, having Lem be the one driving it. As Vic and Shane leave, Lem steals Ronnie's phone so he cannot contact them and drives off with the money.
Dutch and Claudette take Kensit's addiction to Aceveda, who warns them that reopening all of her cases will cost the city millions. Claudette plans to go forward with exposing her regardless, despite Aceveda warning her that many Farmington cops brought in some of the criminals Kensit convicted and that she will alienate herself from the rest of the Barn, which would jeopardize her potential as captain. He ignores her questioning if some of Kensit's convictions could be innocent. Ronnie is picked up by Vic and Shane, having called them from a payphone. Recalling how stressed Lem has been about the money, Vic speeds to the furnace where they burned O'Brien's body to find him burning it. Lem wards them off with a poker, insisting that without the money, Aceveda and Treasury cannot get to them. Shane draws his gun until Vic gets him to put it down, and Lem says "You guys are the only family I got, alright? I'm not gonna let any of us go to prison." Vic rushes Lem and the Strike Team jumps on him, the four men wrestling to a standstill until all of them are tired out.
